Meet the Mohs Skin Cancer Surgeon and Hair Transplant Surgeon

Dr. Luciana Takata is a board-certified Dermatologist and International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology who has been practicing her craft for over 15 years. She graduated from the University of Sao Paolo Campinas, which is considered by many to be the Harvard of Brazil.

She is one of the only dermatologists from Brazil to have completed a Mohs Fellowship in Houston, where she performed over 700 Mohs cases with complex reconstruction flaps and grafts. She founded the first Mohs micrographic surgery service and fellowship program in Campinas, Brazil, teaching dermatologists Mohs surgery. She has published articles on rotation flaps for nasal alar reconstruction. Her cosmetic reconstructions are consistent with the results our patients have come to expect.

Dr. Takata specializes in treating complex hair and scalp disorders. She is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and a Diplomate of the American and International Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. She worked in Sao Paolo at the well-known Ruston Clinic for hair transplantation, performing FUE or follicular unit excisions on both men and women.

She has been involved in many book chapters and published articles internationally in prestigious medical journals discussing her FUE technique, eyebrow reconstruction with long hair, management of hair loss in young patients, and corrective work techniques. She was instrumental in helping write chapters in the Unger Textbook of Hair Transplantation on Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) for corrective work and the stick and place technique, as well as in the Hair Transplant 360 book on their FUE technique from A to Z.

Her surgical approach “How I Do It” was featured in Dermatologic Surgery Journal, as well as her technique on eyebrow reconstruction with long hair FUE. Her 5-step protocol technique for management of androgenetic alopecia in young patients was published in the Korean Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Journal.

She has traveled internationally attending and speaking at conferences all over the world and has served as an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. She is currently on the pro bono committee of the ISHRS, helping patients who have lost their hair due to trauma, accidents, or cancers.

Her passion for hair loss is seen in her helping victims of the Amazon, which was published in Hair Transplant Forum International in 2022.

Her original work on Strip Harvesting Follicular Unit Transplantation Versus Follicular Unit Excision: Comparing the Number of Hairs and the Ratio of Hairs to Follicular Unit was published in March 2024 in the prestigious Dermatologic Surgery Journal.

She joins Dr. Ricardo Mejia, President of the International Society of Hair Restoration, to provide patients with the most advanced treatments in hair loss.
