Juvederm Voluma XC Demonstration – The Instant Cheek Filler

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Juvederm Voluma XC is a modified form of hyaluronic acid that is naturally in your body. It is an injectable targeted to the cheek area to enhance the areas of volume loss due to aging. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a substance that is common in many tissues of the body such as skin and cartilage. It keeps skin moisturized and soft.

Before and After Juvederm Voluma:

Voluma is a game changer when it comes to aesthetics. Instead of looking at your head on to do a consultation, Voluma is more of a three dimensional approach where the doctor looks at the volume loss in the cheeks. Many patients complain about the nasal labial fold  and the marionette lines(near the lips) as to what is bothering them,  but it is really the volume loss in the cheeks that is causing the issue.

In this video, Dr. Mejia demonstrates the procedure on a patient when we had an open house at the office. Topical numbing was placed on the area prior to the injection. Juvederm Voluma XC also contains a small quantity of local anesthetic.

Some key points about Juvederm Voluma XC:

  • It is the only hyaluronic acid that has a two year indication by the FDA.
  • It is the #1 filler in the world and it is the fastest growing aesthetic product in the history of aesthetics.
  • You can see a 32% reduction in nasal labial folds.
  • You can have a 56% reduction in tear trough(below the eyes) just by getting the volume in the cheeks.

The difference between Juvederm Voluma XC and Juvederm:

Voluma has an indication of the cheeks because of the way the product is made. It is a hyla molecular structure. So it is almost like a liquid implant and is specifically designed for the Doctor to inject deep into the bone. Juvederm on the other hand is also a hylarunoic acid, but it is more for soft tissue in the nasal labial folds and the marionette areas and the periorial lines(below the nose).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Melanoma Symptoms : 10 Yr Old Discovers a Spot in Her Moms Hair

A friend of Dr Mejia’s in Dallas shares her melanoma story. Her daughter was brushing her hair one day and found a spot in her scalp thinking it was hair dye. Her mother had her take a picture of it and went to the dermatologist the next day who immediately did a biopsy and was then diagnosed with melanoma.

Dr Mejia urges everyone to know the ABCD’s of melanoma symptoms so you are educated ahead of time in case of an unforseeable situation just like what happened to Lynn. Her hairdresser had seen that spot for five years and didn’t think it was anything abnormal.

In this video, Dr. Mejia explains the symptoms of melanoma and the brochure above gives you a good visual so you know how to spot.

TNS Recovery Complex Benefits For Skin Procedures

TNS Recovery Complex is human growth factors or protein. Humans have growth factors when we are born and as we age, we lose them. They take a greater amount of time to heal. TNS Recovery Complex allows growth factors to produce more collagen which allows to lift, firm, tighten, and help to consistently plump new skin.  It is typically used for the face, neck, and chest.

Mainly used as an anti aging product but is also a must have after a laser or peal procedure because it helps greatly with the healing process. After one month of using this product, the texture in skin will improve as well as noticeable reduction in fine lines and deep lines of the skin.

After three months a sixty percent growth of collagen in the “grin zone” area of the face occurs. Clients mention that this product holds moisture and hydrates the skin the best.

Dysport vs Botox: What are the Similarities & Differences

One of the questions we had at an event was “Dysport vs Botox , which is better?” Dysport is an alternative to Botox and works very similar in many respects.  Botox is the original product that came out. In this video, Dr Mejia explains how Dysport and Botox can be compared to one’s preference between Coke and Pepsi.

At our office, they are used interchangeably. Dr Mejia advises to be aware that concerning cost Botox and Dysport are pretty much the same, but you would need two and a half to three times the amount of units of Dysport to equal Botox. Many advertisements for Dysport will say only X amount a unit, but you have to double or triple that number and it roughly comes out to the same prices as mentioned as Botox.

IPL Treatment Demonstration

In this video, Ashley Hess our Physician Assistant, does a demonstration of the IPL treatment. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light and it targets the pigment producing cells and it targets the pigment from chronic sun exposure. It also targets the redness and blood vessels that cause sun damage. This procedure can be done on different parts of the body like the neck, face, hands and chest.

The Universal IPL machine is made by Lumenis :

IPL treatment improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.

The demonstration was on Renee’s right hand. She already had the IPL treatment done on her left hand(seen on the right of the picture) a week before. In the video, she said the it made her hand look 10 years younger.

IPL was also done on the left side of her chest two weeks before and on this day, she had it done on the other side. This was so you could see the before and after. Notice that the left side (seen as the right side of the video and picture) doesn’t have as much brown pigmentation and it is just after one treatment.

Thanksgiving Message from Dr. Ricardo Mejia

happy-thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a special day because we take time to reflect on what really matters and to thank those we love and who have a special place in our lives.

Therefore, I would like to thank YOU, my valued patients, for all your support at Jupiter Dermatology & Hair Restoration. For me, it is not just a business, but an opportunity to serve others in many ways. I get much joy from being a Doctor even if it is as small as a smile from a patient because they look younger from a cosmetic or hair treatment; or are pleased with the plastic surgery reconstruction following MOHS skin cancer surgery; or relief from diagnosing a melanoma before it spreads.

We are grateful for our lives and I am honored God has given me gifts to help others. I am also eternally grateful for my amazing staff who works together as a great team to give you the best service possible.

This is especially a difficult Thanksgiving for my friend’s 13 year old son, Hunter, who was involved in an ATV accident and is currently in ICU. We are thankful God revived him and he was given a second chance at life. So let’s give thanks for our blessings and I ask for your special prayer for Hunter’s full recovery.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ricardo Mejia and staff

Blue Water Babes 2014

We had another fun year supporting Blue Water Babes Fish For A Cure event to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for various organizations related to Breast Cancer.  Different teams create fun themes around saving breasts, promoting checkups and getting your mammograms done at the Captains Party on Friday.

Our theme was “Save Second Base”. Our whole staff was dressed in red and white baseball outfits. We didn’t win a prize, but we had lots of fun. The second day of the event was the actual fishing. We were very lucky to catch seven fish even though Ely, our medical assistant got a little sea sick.

Black Tip Fishing joined us and did this amazing recap video during the fishing tournament.

Here are some pictures of the event. You can see all of them at our Sunblock Challenge Facebook page which is the non-profit Dr. Mejia created to promote skin cancer awareness.

Here is the recap video from Jennifer McGrath, founder of Blue Water Babes.
